There are a couple of important things
that you need to know so that you can avoid embarrassment and a bad reputation with the
people who may hire you for work.
- Get an answering machine and a pager and include both numbers
in your cover letter.
- Get a book of monologues ( a script to memorize and perform)
and have one prepared for an audition if it is required.
- Get a monthly planner if you dont have one. You need to
know what days you are doing what.
- Get to know people at auditions. You can learn a lot from
each other.
- Put some of the money you make back into pictures and other
things you use to get work.
- Never take anyone with you on an audition, unless the
audition is somewhere or under conditions that you question.
- Never drop in on an agency unless you have already developed
a relationship where you know it is OK.
- Never go on an audition without copies of your headshot and
resume.
- Never show up late, but if you are be sure to call and let
them know that you were coming from another audition that ran over and they will
understand.
- If you know that you are not good on camera or taking
pictures, practice with a camcorder or polaroid. If you can afford to take classes, do so.
You may find information on some of these classes on our Discussion
Forums, Resources or current events
pages.
